A Journey to Re-Enchantment
I recently completed a certificate in Applied Mythology with Pacifica Graduate Institute. (Pacifica has a truly delightful array of online courses related to myth, magic, storytelling, creativity, environmentalism, and depth psychology! Not getting paid to say that, I really just think they're great.)
The course was overseen by Dr. Craig Chalquist, and I loved his point of view on alternatives to The Hero's Journey. He raises a great question - what about the rest of us? We're not all cut out to be heroes, and that's perfectly ok! What call are we answering? What might our journey of self-actualization look like, and how does it enrich the world around us?
Chalquist points to the importance of a Journey to Re-Enchantment. For every Arthur, there needs to be a Merlin who is pulling back the veil and letting magic flow back into the world. He sketches out his 10 Steps toward Re-Enchantment in this article -

If you're like me and you tend to identify more with the wizards, forest hags, fairy godmothers, and tricksters in the story, take a moment to consider what journey you're on. The world needs more of us working on the front lines of re-enchantment!
