Are You Being Called to Death Work?

Happy Autumnal Equinox, Friends!

At the Mortal Path Alliance, we are happily busting out our cozy sweaters, roasting spiced gourds, and watching Practical Magic for the thousandth time...

To say that we look forward to this time of year is an understatement. For Death Workers, fall and winter are OUR time. Don't get me wrong, you can and should do death work all year round. But when we enter into the dark half of the year, when the days grow shorter as the darkness overtakes the light, we can feel that magic resonate deep in their bones.

If you feel that power awakening in you at this turn of the season, you may be asking yourself - is Death Work calling to me? How do I know if I'm destined for Death Work?

To answer that question, here are three paths to for you to consider -

1. Have you had some sort of initiatory experience related to Death?

Initiatory experiences are usually turning point moments where a door is opened that cannot be shut. For some, this might come in the form of a near-death experience or diagnosis of a terminal illness - something that causes you to touch the other side, and move forward in life with one foot still planted in the Underworld. For others, an initiatory experience might be the awakening of a Death-related magical power, like morisentience or mediumship.

2. Do you love talking about Death and Grief?

Please note, we are NOT talking about Death as an aesthetic. There are plenty of people out there who live for all things dark and spooky and that's a-ok. But it's one thing to love horror movies, Halloween, and all-black accessories. It's another thing entirely to love digging deep into the physical and metaphysical aspects of death, dying, loss, grief, trauma, and shadow work. Most people find these topics extremely uncomfortable to engage with and run screaming from those conversations! So if you find yourself running toward them, that's a solid clue that Death Work could be in your wheelhouse.

3. If/When you practice magic and dabble in Death Work, does it energetically fill you up?

For those with an active practice, you tend to find that some kinds of spells and spiritual work take a minimal amount of energy and other kinds of work take a gigantic amount of energy. Consider that your energetic system has certain inherent gifts and proclivities - that means that you're naturally going to have an easier and more efficient time doing work that resonates with your gifts, vs. work that is at odds with your gifts. As a Death Worker, alas, I don't have the gift of a green thumb and I struggle to feel the resonance of herbs or keep my poor beloved houseplants alive. But on the flip side, when I help people work through loss and trauma, their grief leaves me feeling juiced up like a supercharged battery! So take a moment to reflect on what kind of work leaves you feeling drained, and what kind of work fills you up.

If you answered yes to any of these questions and you'd like to learn more about how to answer that call, reach out to us! We'd love to hear from you and help you embrace all the magic and healing power of Death Work.

The image is kinda creepy, but you get the idea.
